I don't want to fool you. For the majority fo the two hour drive to the jungle it was palm oil plantations as far as the eye can see. It left me with a profound sadness that lasted long after the week. And I struggled for days to determine what the correct balance between a country's right to develop their natural resources to improve the lives of their citizens versus the responsibility they have in maintaining the biodiversity of the planet, which benefits all of us. (I mean, I come from America, it's not like my country is in a position to argue for the maintenance of natural resources.) I had decided I'd write out my complex thoughts and share them with the photos of the deforestation. But in the end, I left it unfinished (like most things I do). And watch Netflix's Our Planet episode on jungles. There is a stunning scene where they share the vibrant sounds of the jungle and the near silence of a palm oil plantation.
